Today was site visit day. It was a very big day for us to see the plaster complete, staircase and carcasses all in. Around 365 days ago we sat in Studio M and chose our house colours of matchbox sized samples. What would these samples look like en mass? Had our taste changed?
From the moment I entered the house I was greeted by the space and proportions that Metricon are famous for; everything felt generous in proportion. The extra high ceilings, wider corridors, taller doorways, all gave as sense of space. The house was light filled and had a beautiful warmth to it, even though it has a long way to go. Okay enough of me, lets see some pictures!
Staircase with feature window and hand rails in. This will eventually have a feature hanging pendant. We are thinking of staining the wood a dark colour.
This is the kitchen reveal. Very early days, but we love it already. The stone template is on the island and is being cut as I type. It is a very super piece of stone and will require 6 blokes to move it! The gaps you can see are for a dishwater and two ovens. Yes, we have gone with two small ovens instead of one big one. Same price, but we felt it gave us more cooking options.
I love under staircases. This cavity is even more important as it will eventually be a wine cellar. I did a quick calculation and reckon it is good for some 2000 bottles. That is plenty of room!

Family bathroom cabinets. This is a gorgeous laminate. It will go really well with the saltbush tiles (i hope!). It has a lovely texture to it and very fine stripe.
Ensure with feature window where a free standing bath will one day live. We have gone with a more aggressive tiger stripe on our cabinets in here to jazz up the bathroom which has a stark white tile wall.
Super solid front door. Tiffany green. Lovely. Just kidding. We are going with a dark front door in namadji.

View down the hallway to the front door. We have some doors at the end of the hallway to create an air lock to keep the heat in.
Master bedroom with the balcony stacker doors. This room is huge. I’m thinking to taking up indoor soccer as a result.
Bedroom windows (facade of house). We added another window (right hand side) as this look out to the beach. You can see the sea from this window which is very exciting. It is also where the robes are so I haven’t yet figured out if the neighbours like nudity – or more specifically – mine!
So next we have stone benches going in, firebox (!), painters to start next week, then flooring and tiling the weeks after that. Hopefully I’ll be able to do another picture bomb in 14 days or so. The last batch of cladding arrived too, so the front of the house will be done (they ran out of cladding at the factory!)

Yes, the sense of light and space is apparent in your photos. Great base! Your wood cabinetry is lovely. What have you used? I adore the window splash back. You must be very, very pleased.
Hi Johanne. Sublime teak is the island and lower cupboards. Oyster stone feature bench in 60mm thick (to come). Upper cupboards are moleskin which is a great laminate in that it looks like 2 pac but is just a glossy laminate but without the extra price tag.
We always wanted a window splashback as we have grand plans to put a lovely garden out there. At night, the garden will light up and be quite a feature. Well, that is the dream anyway!
Love, love, love it – because I just had to look up whether “sublime teak” was a laminate or real wood. I can’t tell from your pictures. (Fingers crossed the wood-look laminate I’ve picked for our bathrooms will be as good.)
You’ll be fine. Even close up the laminate looks like a thick chunk of wood. Very happy. They have come a long way from the old caravan panels of the past!
Wow E&M, I can’t believe how much progress they have made in the last few weeks! It is going to be a beautiful home, so bright and airy. The kitchen colours are fabulous, so nice to see something different to the ‘safe’ whites, greys and charcoal. I am breathing a huge sigh of relief seeing your oyster linea cabinets. We chose this colour for our main bathroom to and I’ve been freaking out thinking it may look really washed out. Can’t wait to see that firebox go in too!
Hi Chester! The oyster linea is to die for! You will love it. I was so happy to see it in the bathroom. I think it may end up being my favorite pick of them all! In our home it looks really amazing. It looks really sophisticated and quite a statement! I don’t think you should be freaking out – just yet! The texture and colour is actually quite subtle but it has a beauty and sophistication that not many other laminates can match. Stay the course – I reckon you are on a winner! E.

Hi E & M, we’re building with metricon & are using the space under the stairs for a storage area. Could you please tell me if you had to specify how much space you wanted or did Metricon just give all the under stair space for storage? We have been told ours needs a support beam, but I have never seen these needed in any houses & everyone seems to get maximum space. Trying to work out if we have reason to expect Metricon to fix the issue.
Our staircase didn’t require any support beams. Metricon gave us the entire cavity so there is a lot of great space. I”m guessing the type of staircase would determine the supports. Our design – staircase sort of hidden away didn’t need any additional supports.
